DeVito: I sucked poison out of Douglas
HOLLYWOOD star Danny DeVito has revealed how he saved the life of best friend Michael Douglas after a snake bit his hand while filming Romancing The Stone.
The actor said the pair, who were once roommates in New York in 1968, were filming the hit movie with star Kathleen Turner in Mexico in 1984 when Douglas, now 73, was bitten.
DeVito immediately wrapped his mouth around Douglas’s hand to suck out venom.
He explained: “We were doing Romancing The Stone years ago and we were in Mexico in this really rugged kind of place.
There was this guy who had a pick-up truck. In the bed of the truck were snakes. I’m scared of snakes, but Michael, he’s being the hot shot”
I heard the best thing to do is suck the poison out right away, so I did. I grabbed his hand and and I’m spitting all over the place
DeVito, 73, said. “The guy’s got a snake on his arm and all the kids are coming around and Michael grabs the snake.
“I’m going, ‘Michael, don’t touch it! The snake could bite you.’ He says no, Danny, it’s no big deal. Then it bites his hand.
