The Crown star Claire Foy scooped an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series tonight for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the popular Netflix show.
The 34-year-old actress arrived at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles alongside co-star Matt Smith, who played her husband Prince Phillip in the first two series of the royal drama.
Collecting her award on stage, Claire dedicated the accolade to Matt and the next generation of The Crown stars.
She remarked: “thank you, Emmys. I had the most extraordinary two and a half years of my life.”
The award-winning actress wore a white strapless gown with red lipstick to the showbiz event.
Another Brit who won on the night was Thandie Newton, star of sci-fi show Westworld.
The English actress picked up the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for her role as robot Maeve Millay.
The mother-of-three scooped the award on her daughter Ripley’s 18th birthday.
Earlier in the show, while collecting the award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, American director Glenn Weiss shocked the audience with a marriage proposal.
He invited girlfriend Jan Svendsen on stage and went down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.
In an emotional moment she said yes and accepted the ring of his late mother who sadly passed away just two weeks ago.
