CORONATION STREET cast member Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew on the ITV soap, hit back at a Twitter troll who criticised his appearance on the show.
Lorraine: Corrie's Daniel Brocklebank 'filming was exhausting'
The Coronation Street actor, 38, refused to remain tight-lipped when a Twitter user insulted his character and made insulting remarks about his clothing.
The Twitter user penned: “Billy is a s**t actor and a totally unbelievable vicar, tight trousers and rolled up sleeves, get rid…”(sic).
Biting back, Daniel replied: “Thank you for your review David. I'll be passing your comments on to the relevant departments.
“Especially seeing as you have degrees in acting, costume design & extensive knowledge relating to the clergy."
Many of Daniel’s 79,000 followers flocked to his page to comment on the Twitter exchange.
One user wrote: “You are a brilliant actor and Billy is a very convincing vicar, and you always look good. #justsaying.”
A second cheekily penned: “Well he certainly gets my attention in those tight trousers!”
A third added: “Nothing wrong with those trousers. Absolutely nothing.”
Earlier this week, Daniel reacted to another social media user who commented on his trousers.
The Twitter user wrote: “Billy's trousers are tight enough #Corrie.”(sic)
Daniel replied: “Are they though... are they?” followed by a cheeky face emoji.
The actor also informed his followers that his mother had jokingly pointed out that his trousers are “tight”.
He tweeted: “Mum & I sat watching corrie together..
“Mum: Gosh those trouser don’t leave much to the imagination.. I wonder where you get that from. It certainly isn’t your dad.”
One fan commented: “This is absolutely brilliant can you get your mum on @C4Gogglebox.”
Another added: “Did think the same!! Ha.”(sic).
Billy first joined the cobbles as the new vicar at Emily Bishop's parish, St. Mary's in December 2014.
He has since been at the centre of many controversial storylines including his portrayal as a heroin addict earlier this year.
The storyline reportedly received 84 Ofcom complaints, but Daniel defended the storyline, insisting the message was “important”.
He previously said on Lorraine: “To tell the story, to show that hard-working moral people can fall into that state, is an important story to tell.
“People have been shocked because Billy started off such a sweet, amiable character, and so for him to turn into that.”
He continued: ″Corrie’s always been at the forefront of tackling sensitive stories, like the Bethany [Platt] grooming storyline.
“We’re not afraid of tackling issues like this.”
Coronation Street continues tonight at 8:30pm on ITV.
