Rachel Riley Twitter: Countdown star admits embarrassing ‘blonde moment’ as fan triumphs
RACHEL RILEY admitted to having a “blonde moment” after the Countdown presenter seemingly got a maths problem wrong in full view of her Twitter fans and was forced to “retract” her original answer.
Countdown: Rachel Riley shows off seventy-five times table skills
Rachel Riley, who has appeared on Countdown since 2009 when she replaced Carol Vorderman, was corrected by one Twitter user when it came to a tricky problem this morning.
The 32-year-old claimed she’d had a “blonde moment” as she told them they were right and she wasn’t.
The presenter regularly shares mathematical conundrums with her 575,000 followers, much like those aired on the Channel 4 favourite.
“I’m not convinced…” the fan had started. “If I am one of 100 winners (unlikely) sharing £1m, I get £10k, but if I am two of 101 winners, I get £19.8k.
You’re quite right, blonde moment, fully retracted
“It almost doubles. But if I go from 1/2 to 2/3 of a £1m, it’s nowhere near double. Maybe? I think.”(sic)
Rachel later wrote back: “You’re quite right, blonde moment, fully retracted,” alongside an emoji with its tongue out.
She was then told simply: “You’re forgiven. At least you’ve never used a 4 twice… lol.”(sic)
The small screen favourite had just hours earlier posted a lengthy problem, quipping: “I’m gonna retweet then run and hide when the answers come in.”
Rachel had much better luck with this one and corrected a number of users who struggled to work it out.
“Ratio and percentage are equivalent and the whole question is asking about a percentage change,” she simply put it.
Rachel will be on screens tonight in the latest instalment of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
Ahead of the instalment, she caught up on some admin on Instagram in relation to her head-turning outfits.
“There’s a new 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown tonight 9pm so here’s a post for the girls!” she started.
The beauty went on: “Some outfit info for the latest eps, I’ve been slacking with wardrobe credits so here they are.(sic)
“Thanks @jennifer.michalski.bray.style for the styling and @laurenr84 and @maryana___88 for the face painting! #8outof10cats #8outof10catsdoescountdown #countdown #numbersgirl #style #wardrobe #dresses #jewellery #tv #comedy #hairandmakeup.”
Countdown: Rachel Riley warns Nick about his night-clubbing
Meanwhile, it comes after a Countdown guest made a racy joke about Susie Dent after Rachel jokingly snubbed him.
After claiming he had failed to win over the star with his “maths language” in a previous episode, comedian Phil Wang, 28, turned his efforts to her Dictionary Corner co-star.
He told the team: “As you may be aware, I am a bit of a ladies man… unfortunately that bit is very small.
“Last time I was here, I tried to use the language of maths to woo the brilliant Rachel. The yielding results that we in the engineering company would describe as f*** all.”
Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
